One of the areas of eco-conscious consumerism where I’ve struggled to make progress is in my use of household goods, such as washing up liquid and hand soap. I feel like many brands have been slow to adopt more eco conscious techniques for bottling and shipping their product and it has been an area of frustration compared with the strides made in personal care items such as soap and shampoo.

Klorane Softening Solid Shampoo Bar with Oat Milk
With so many shampoo bars now available I am still very much in my “discovery phase” for identifying what might be my all time favourite.
After trying a few shampoo bars from brands I would consider to be “eco-beauty disrupters”, I wanted to try some offerings from some of the more established brands in the market. This led me to checking out Klorane’s shampoo bar offering.
Dizzie (formerly Good Club) zero waste grocery delivery
Over the past 3 years or so, I have noticed the emergence of a particular type of service that I have become very intrigued by and super excited about. Zero waste grocery deliveries. One thing that would always grind my gears, is noticing the sheer amount of single use plastic in our groceries. It’s unavoidable, right? Groceries are of course, necessary. But I couldn’t let go of this nagging frustration that the big players in the supermarket arena just weren’t doing enough to address the volume of single use plastic that flows through their supply chains, into our homes, and with the best of intentions and where possible, into our recycling waste.
Love Beauty and Planet Coconut water & Mimosa flower volume and bounty shampoo bar
Continuing in my quest to find the ultimate holy grail shampoo bar, my most recent discovery was Love Beauty and Planet’s Coconut water & Mimosa flower volume and bounty shampoo bar.
Percy & Reed All Lathered Up cleansing shampoo bar
If there is one thing I have learned about myself on my journey to reduce single use plastic waste, it’s that I am fascinated by shampoo bars. After years of using traditional hair shampoo, it’s still a novelty to me that a solid little bar can properly lather up and cleanser my tresses without leaving them a tangled and claggy mess.
Wild deodorant
Most of us have probably seen Wild Deodorant advertised by influencers across our social media platform of choice at some point. With their pastel coloured, instagram-friendly packaging and compelling eco-friendly, sustainable refillable approach and brand mission (which you can read about here https://www.wearewild.com/pages/our-mission), it took me a surprisingly long time to jump on the bandwagon and give them a try.
E-Know soap bag
I stumbled across the E-Know soap bag while trawling through an Amazon search for replacement options for my Tabitha Eve soap saver.
LastSwab cotton bud
Over the years I have managed to successfully eradicate many single use items from my bathroom and beauty routines…. Cotton wool balls? Gone! Cotton wool rounds/pads? Also gone! But not forgotten… Face wipes? I don’t know her! But cotton buds? This felt like an item I just couldn’t say good bye to.
Gruum Har Nourishing shampoo bar
There are so many aspects that can make or break a shampoo bar experience. Does it glide over hair smoothly, or will it contribute to making hair knotty and unmanageable? Will it lather sufficiently, or will it feel like rubbing a pretty useless pebble over my scalp? Will it be easy to keep a grip on or will I find myself chasing it around the shower tray / bathtub and subsequently wasting much of the product?
Dr Bronner Pure Castile bar vs. Ethique Body wash bar
Before diving head first into the world of body wash bars, I wanted to do a little research as to established brands in the market. This research led me to two pretty well known brands, Dr Bronner and Ethique.
